What the Heck is Lorem Ipsem?

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet. Confused? Chances are, if you are a client of ours, or have had design work done for your business, you have seen these words before. They are the opening few words of something called Lorem Ipsum, a placeholder text used by designers to mock up what a piece will look like before actual content is added.

Happy Colour Roulette day! For the uninitiated, Colour Roulette is a creative challenge our team does. Each month, someone is assigned a random hex code and they have to design something (anything!) using that colour. Usually, we’ll create iPhone and desktop background downloads so that if you love the design, you can look at it all the time!

Drool Session: Favourite Cookbooks
Drool Session: Favourite Cookbooks

I LOVE to cook. I think it’s safe to say it’s the part of my day I look forward to the most (second would likely be grocery shopping). Getting creative in the kitchen is meditative, gets my mind off of things and it involves eating. Who doesn’t love to eat?

If you’re unfamiliar, Colour Roulette is where we assign a random hex code to one of our team members and they design whatever they want using only that colour! We then turn them into handy dandy wallpapers that you can save and use on your phone or computer.

As these bright, wide-eyed students step out into the big world of design, rejection becomes a big part of the design process. In school, sometimes you feel the cushion of not actually creating work for real clients so the blow doesn’t hit you as hard.

Choosing Colours: 5 Colour Considerations
Choosing Colours: 5 Colour Considerations

In the tool belt of a graphic designer, colour can be considered a power tool. The colours we use for our clients go much further than simply picking our favourites.

We love creative challenges. We love anything that gets our creative juices flowing and helps us work on our skills. Last month we introduced Colour Roulette, which is a creative challenge we started for us to flex those brain muscles outside of our billable work. The rules are simple: You’re assigned a random hex code, and you have a month to create something (anything!) using that colour.
