Boy, have times changed. Through my 8 year career, I’ve seen the world of web completely evolve. It’s hard to believe there was a time without computers and the internet. The most recent big change in wed development has been the growth of mobile, which has completely exploded. As a web developer I spend most of my time making websites function perfectly and look great on smaller devices.
Moving countries and working abroad is always a daunting and exciting experience. Personally, I moved from Australia to Canada just in time for the winter (the coldest I have ever been in my life), but rather than being afraid of the weather, I was concerned about how I would find my feet in the Canadian workforce. Lucky for me I found my tribe. Working for KEEN has proved invaluable and has showcased the many benefits of working abroad with such a talented team.
It should come as no surprise when I say that at KEEN we take the holiday season very seriously. We celebrated together at an amazing Christmas Party, decorated the office to the nines, start the work day off with a Christmas music power-hour every morning and everyone takes part in opening a door on a communal office lego advent calendar.
When it comes to the annual KEEN Christmas party, we know how to PARTY. This year all the KEENers voted on the theme Havana Nights for the party and came dressed in their best Cuban attire, complete with khaki pants, button-down shirts and saucy dresses. Some super KEENers took it as far as flowers in their hair and Cuban cigars to accessorize their outfits.
Have a designer in your life but aren’t sure what to buy them for Christmas? You’re in luck! We’ve put together a KEEN Gift Guide for Designers and Creatives to help you shop for those creative people in your life!
As you may know, a group of enthusiastic gamers at KEEN participated in Extra Life. It’s a massive yearly event where individuals or teams gather donations towards a noble cause. In our case it was raising funds for the Stollery Children’s Hospital, and in return we had to stay up for 24 hours and play video games.
We’re throwing a mini party for ourselves today. We were recently finalists for 4 Canadian Regional Design Awards (Redgees):
In my last blog post, we looked at what the different types of videos are that can appear on websites and how they can benefit you. Now we’re going to take a look at the different ways that these can be integrated into your website to draw more interest and visual appeal to help you stand out from your competitors.
Over the past few years, using videos on your website has been growing in popularity. They are an excellent tool for providing details and information in a visual way. They can be used as a promotional tool, an educational tool, or simply for visual interest. Either way, a video is just as effective on websites for visual communication as copywriting, photography and illustration.
It’s time for another round of Colour Roulette! If you’re unfamiliar, Colour Roulette is where we assign a random hex code to one of our team members and they design whatever they want using only that colour! We then turn them into handy dandy wallpapers that you can save and use on your phone or computer.
